Title: Covering: The Hidden Assault on Our Civil Rights
Speaker: Kenji Yoshino
Location: Georgetown
Presentation Type: streaming video (Quicktime), audio (.mp3)

Yoshino, Yale Law Professor and Dean of Intellectual Life, speaks about his book, Covering: The Hidden Assault on Our Civil Rights. Georgetown does a wonderful job of recording these sessions — the video and audio are very high-quality and clear, and there’s hardly any extraneous noise. There’s an ASL interpreter, as well, though she’s not visible throughout the entire presentation. The presentation runs just over an hour, with more than half the time dedicated to questions.

The questions addressed potential tradeoffs for greater liberty; dealing with irreducible conflicts between groups; how covering is simultaneously engaging (with society) and disengaging (with the self); and how the cultural project moves forward from here.
